Defence Minister Pledges Enhanced Security For South-East, Emphasises Business Prosperity

ENUGU/OWERRI, NIGERIA – The Nigerian Government has reaffirmed its commitment to bolstering security in the South-East region, asserting that a secure environment is paramount for economic growth and prosperity.

This commitment was reiterated by the  Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, during a two-day operational visit to Enugu and Imo states.

Minister Abubakar, addressing officers of the 82 Division/Joint Task Force South-East (Operation Udo Ka) in Enugu, praised their efforts while urging intensified action against insecurity.

He engaged with various stakeholders, including security chiefs, traditional rulers, students, and community leaders, to forge collaborative security strategies.

  His visit also included inspections of the Nigerian Air Force base in Emene, Enugu.

The Minister underscored President Bola Tinubu’s directive to find sustainable solutions to insecurity, stating, “Without security, there can be no peace or development.”

He recognised the entrepreneurial spirit of the South East and highlighted the critical link between security and business prosperity, soliciting input on enhancing security and fostering lasting peace.

Minister Abubakar highlighted the progress made by the Tinubu administration in combating nationwide insecurity, emphasizing a renewed determination to intensify efforts under the President’s leadership.

Major General Hassan Dada, GOC 82 Division/Joint Task Force South-East, announced robust strategies to ensure security during the upcoming festive season, aiming to create a secure environment for the expected influx of people for Christmas.

Retired Major General John Nwoga highlighted the detrimental role of social media in spreading misinformation and fear, urging the public to be wary of fake news and old videos depicting criminal activities.

In Imo State, the Minister addressed troops at FOB Okigwe, 211 Quick Response Group, the Nigerian Air Force base in Owerri, and the Naval Base in Oguta, conveying President Tinubu’s message of appreciation and encouragement for improved performance.

He also paid a courtesy call to Governor Hope Uzodimma, expressing gratitude for the Governor’s support to the 82 Division and Operation Udo Ka.
