IPOB Condemns ‘False Narrative’ Blaming Them For Imo State Violence
OWERRI, Imo State – The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has vehemently denounced accusations linking them to the security challenges in Orsu, Imo State, calling them a deliberate smear campaign orchestrated by the Nigerian government.
In a press release issued by Comrade Emma Powerful, IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, the group accused the Odimma Orsu Initiative, a group that recently appeared on TVC News, of spreading false information.
IPOB alleges that the Odimma Orsu Initiative’s claims that IPOB and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), are responsible for the violence are a fabrication funded by Governor Hope Uzodinma and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Powerful stated that the group remained silent for three years while a criminal organization known as the Biafra Liberation Army (BLA), or “Umuoma,” operated freely from a base called “Mother Valley Camp” in Orsu.
He claimed the BLA was directly linked to the Imo State government, citing meetings between the group and the deputy governor.
Powerful asserted that the Nigerian Army and Police were fully aware of the BLA’s activities and location but allowed them to operate unchecked, instead blaming the violence on IPOB and ESN.
He cited a viral video showing the words “Valley Camp of BLA” written on a wall during a reported army visit to the camp.
Powerful stated that the BLA, under the direction of a leader imprisoned in Finland, was responsible for the deaths of several IPOB members, including the Biafra Land National Coordinator.
IPOB maintains that they are a non-violent movement advocating for Biafran self-determination and that the ESN focuses on protecting Biafran farmlands from Fulani herdsmen.
They accused the Nigerian government of using the BLA to discredit their movement after the arrest and rendition of their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Powerful challenged the Odimma Orsu Initiative to retract their accusations publicly, asserting their silence during the three years of BLA activity renders their current claims suspect.
He concluded that the Nigerian government’s campaign of calumny against IPOB and ESN will ultimately fail, reiterating their innocence and unwavering commitment to their cause.
