Dogara Exposes Wike’s Financial Support For Bala Mohammed’s 2019 Gubernatorial Campaign
Bauchi – Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has issued a scathing letter detailing former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike’s significant financial support for Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed’s 2019 gubernatorial campaign.
The letter, titled “GOV BALA vs. HE WIKE: LET THE TRUTH BE TOLD,” responds directly to Governor Mohammed’s recent criticisms of Wike.
Dogara, who claims to have played a key role in facilitating the support, paints a picture of profound gratitude that is quickly replaced by ingratitude.
He claims that his decision to publicly reveal these details stems from a moral obligation to truth and justice, despite the potential personal consequences. He emphasises that his intention is not to defend Wike, but to reveal the truth, regardless of how it affects either individual’s image.
According to Dogara, Wike’s assistance was critical during the 2018 PDP gubernatorial primaries. Faced with a formidable opponent,
Mohammed’s campaign was extremely underfunded. Dogara describes how he personally asked Wike for help, eventually gaining his support through a series of interventions.
Dogara claims that this support included the appointment of Wike’s close ally, Chief Dan Osi Orbih, as chairman of the primaries panel.Wike, he claims, also provided a private jet to fly Orbih to Bauchi, covering all associated costs. Despite initial reservations about winning the primaries, Mohammed ultimately emerged victorious as the party’s flag bearer.
Nonetheless, financial difficulties persisted. Dogara describes a fundraising effort that yielded a meagre N28 million after expenses, emphasising the critical situation facing Mohammed’s campaign.
. He then details how Wike, alerted to the dire circumstances, provided a substantial cash injection to rescue the campaign from financial collapse. This included a significant sum personally delivered to Mohammed in Port Harcourt, and the use of a private jet for travel to and from the city.
Dogara further recounts a tense meeting in Port Harcourt where Wike confronted Mohammed about previous perceived slights and humiliations during their time as ministers under President Jonathan.
Despite this past animosity, Wike, according to Dogara, ultimately chose to provide the essential funding without demanding anything in return.
Dogara concludes his letter by emphasizing Wike’s generosity and expressing his dismay at Governor Mohammed’s subsequent attacks.
He challenges Mohammed to publicly refute the allegations, citing several individuals who can corroborate his account, including the two serving senators present during the Port Harcourt meeting.
The letter underscores a significant rift between the two governors and throws a harsh light on the complexities of Nigerian politics.
