Toke Makinwa Weighs In On 2face Idibia’s Divorce Announcement, Sparking Online Firestorm
Lagos, Nigeria – The ongoing marital drama between Nigerian music legend Innocent Idibia, aka 2face, and Nollywood actress Annie Idibia has taken another explosive turn, with popular social media influencer Toke Makinwa joining the fray with a vehement condemnation of the singer’s actions.
The controversy erupted on Sunday evening, when 2face initially claimed his Instagram account had been hacked after a post announcing his separation and impending divorce from Annie Idibia surfaced.
He later retracted this statement, admitting that he made the announcement himself.
Makinwa was enraged by this admission and was blunt in her criticism. In a comment directly below 2face’s video confession, she wrote,
“This is wrong on every level, and you should be ashamed of yourself for bringing it here. Bring it on. If you believe she is alone, let me assure you that you will have to fight all of us.
Her condemnation did not end there. Makinwa took to her own Instagram page, further escalating the situation with a pointed message directed at women who remain neutral in the face of what she sees as a blatant injustice.
“I’m not one for too much talk, but what is wrong is wrong,” she posted. “And as a woman, if you sit on the fence on this one, if it misses you, it’ll touch your daughter or any female in your family.
” No one is innocent, and if you want to bring the media into it, knowing what is happening, we would fight for her.”
Makinwa’s impassioned statements have ignited a fierce debate across social media platforms.
Her personal experience with a highly publicized divorce in 2015, following infidelity claims against her ex-husband Maje Ayida, lends a poignant layer to her outspoken support for Annie Idibia.
Many applaud her for taking a stand against what they perceive as 2face’s public humiliation of his wife. Others, however, criticize her involvement, arguing that it’s an intrusion into a private matter.
The online discourse is a whirlwind of opinions, with some users echoing Makinwa’s sentiments, fiercely defending Annie Idibia and condemning 2face’s handling of the situation.
Others are questioning the appropriateness of Makinwa’s public intervention, suggesting it’s a publicity stunt leveraging the high-profile nature of the Idibia’s marital troubles.
Still others argue that the public airing of such personal matters is damaging to all parties involved.
This incident underscores the ever-blurring lines between celebrity privacy and public scrutiny in the age of social media.
While 2face’s initial attempt to deflect responsibility by citing a hacking incident backfired spectacularly,
Toke Makinwa’s powerful intervention has further amplified the controversy, turning it into a full-blown public relations crisis.
The fallout from this incident, and the wider discussion it has sparked, will undoubtedly continue to dominate headlines and social media conversations for some time to come.
As 2face promises a forthcoming press release to “say his story,” the anticipation for further revelations and reactions is palpable.
