NCC Permits MTN To Disconnect Exchange Telecommunication Over Debt
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has approved the disconnection of Exchange Telecommunications Ltd from the MTN Nigeria network due to nonpayment of interconnect charges.
The commission announced this in a public notice signed by Mr Reuben Muoka, NCC’s Public Affairs Director, on Friday.
Exchange Telecommunications is a local and international interconnection carrier.
“The Nigerian Communications Commission hereby notifies the public that approval has been granted for the disconnection of Exchange Telecommunications Ltd. (Exchange) from MTN Nigeria Communications Ltd. (MTN) due to non-payment of interconnection charges,” the NCC stated.
The Commission noted that the Exchange was notified of the application and allowed to comment and present its case.
It stated that after reviewing the application and the circumstances surrounding the indebtedness, the commission determined that the Exchange did not have a valid reason for failing to pay the interconnect charges.
The NCC stated that the disconnection of Exchange Telecommunications to MTN was in accordance with Section 100 of the Nigerian Communications Act of 2003 and the Guidelines on Procedure for Granting Approval to Disconnect Telecommunications Operators of 2012.
