PANDEF Lauds NDDC’s Transparency, Development Efforts In Niger Delta

Port Harcourt, Rivers State–The Pan Niger Delta Development Forum (PANDEF) has praised the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for its renewed commitment to transparency, accountability, and infrastructure development in the region.

During a courtesy visit to the NDDC headquarters in Port Harcourt, PANDEF National Chairman, Ambassador Godknows Igali praised the Commission’s leadership, describing it as “visionary and results-driven.”

Igali commended the NDDC’s progress on several key infrastructure projects, including the Benin-Ore road, the “Light Up Niger Delta” initiative, and its youth development programs.

He attributed the positive changes to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s support and urged the President, governors, and other stakeholders to continue supporting the NDDC to ensure its success. PANDEF pledged to continue collaborating with the Commission.

In response, NDDC Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku emphasised the Commission’s commitment to transformational leadership and accountability.

He mentioned the ongoing review of NDDC operations by KPMG, a globally recognised audit firm, and stated that the recommendations from this review will be fully implemented to improve transparency and efficiency.

Ogbuku acknowledged past anomalies while emphasising the Commission’s forward-thinking approach.

Ogbuku detailed several ongoing and completed infrastructure projects, including the completed Auchi-Eruwe road, the ongoing Port Harcourt-Owerri road (which is currently being asphalted), and upcoming work on the Agbor-Uromi road.

He also stated that the vital Auchi-Benin road has been prioritised for intervention. Furthermore, the NDDC is working with International Oil Companies (IOCs), including Nigeria LNG (NLNG), on large-scale projects such as the Bonny Ring Road and other major road projects like the Kaa-Ataba and Borokiri-Okrika roads.

Addressing the region’s energy needs, Ogbuku announced plans to investigate the development of solar mini-grids in collaboration with electricity distribution companies (DisCos).

He also announced that youth empowerment payments would begin this month.

The NDDC’s 25th anniversary celebrations in 2025 will include the commissioning of completed projects and the inaugural Niger Delta Sports Festival, which will be held in Akwa Ibom state.

Ogbuku confirmed that all abandoned projects would be revisited in accordance with President Tinubu’s directives.

The event was attended by senior NDDC executives, including the Executive Directors of Finance and Administration, Projects, and Corporate Services.
