Abuja, Nigeria – The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the suspension of admissions to eight universities’ Law programs for the 2025/2026 academic year.

The decision comes after the Council of Legal Education (CLE) suspended the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme at these institutions.

According to a statement released Wednesday by JAMB’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the affected universities are: Kwara State University, Malete; Bingham University, Karu; Redeemers University, Ede; Western Delta University, Oghara; Taraba State University, Jalingo; Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo; Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike; and the Nigerian Police Academy in Wudil.

According to JAMB, the suspension is due to a violation of regulatory procedures. While seven universities’ suspensions extend through the 2025/2026 academic year, the ban on Law programme admissions at the Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, will last two academic sessions, 2025/2026 and 2026/2027.

Dr. Benjamin emphasised that JAMB will not approve any admissions for candidates wishing to study Law at these universities during the 2025/2026 academic session.

Prospective law students should consider alternative institutions for their legal education. The statement did not specify the regulatory violations that resulted in the CLE’s suspension of the LL.B programmes.

Further information about the specific violations is expected to be released by JAMB or the CLE in the coming days.

The consequences of this suspension for current students enrolled in the affected Law programs are unclear.
