Cuba Condemns Trump’s Re-Imposition Of Harsh Economic Sanctions
HAVANA, CUBA – The Cuban government has issued a scathing rebuke to former US President Donald Trump’s decision to reinstate stringent economic sanctions, describing the move as a “aggression” against the island nation’s sovereignty and welfare.
In a strongly worded statement issued today, the Cuban Revolutionary Government accused Trump of escalating “economic warfare” against Cuba, citing Cuba’s re-inclusion on the US State Sponsors of Terrorism list as proof of a disregard for truth.
The statement echoed a previous warning issued in January, predicting that such a shift in policy was likely given the perceived inconsistency and lack of legitimacy in US policy towards Cuba.
It directly criticised Trump’s actions, describing them as imperialistic and motivated by a desire for regional dominance, reminiscent of the Monroe Doctrine and Manifest Destiny.
The government also blamed these policies for contributing to Cuba’s economic problems and increased emigration to the United States.
The statement paints a picture of a US administration driven by a desire for conquest, citing alleged ambitions for Canada, Greenland, and the Gulf of Mexico, as well as the assertion of continued US control over the Panama Canal.
It blames those who have benefited from anti-Cuban policies, accusing them of being complicit in the island’s problems.
While acknowledging that the sanctions will have a significant negative impact on Cuba’s economy and standard of living, the government maintains that these measures will not deter the country from pursuing its socialist path.
The statement emphasises the Cuban people’s determination to overcome economic challenges, as well as the national spirit and international support received from governments, organisations, and individuals around the world.
The statement concluded by referring to the large pro-government demonstrations, emphasising the Cuban people’s unwavering determination and the widespread belief that “CUBA WILL OVERCOME.”
The renewed sanctions are therefore framed not as a setback, but as a challenge that the Cuban people are determined to overcome.
