Gospel Star Mercy Chinwo Breaks Silence On Alleged Exploitation By Former Manager, EezeeTee
Lagos, Nigeria – Mercy Chinwo, a renowned gospel musician, has publicly accused her former manager, Ezekiel ThankGod (EezeeTee), of exploitation, intimidation, and financial misconduct throughout their business relationship.
Chinwo alleges a pattern of abusive behaviour in a detailed statement released through her lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, which includes false claims about her health, contract forgery, and revenue misappropriation.
Chinwo, who initially remained silent on the subject, described a relationship that began amicably but deteriorated after 2019. She claims that EezeeTee became increasingly hostile and verbally abusive, threatening to end her career.
The statement cites specific incidents, including a fabricated story about Chinwo having a terminal illness that prevented her from fulfilling a ministry commitment.
The most serious allegations concern financial mismanagement. According to Chinwo, EezeeTee manipulated revenue reports from digital streaming platforms such as Symphonic, Africori, and YouTube, resulting in an inaccurate representation of the agreed-upon revenue split.
She also accuses him of falsely claiming authorship of her songs in order to collect publishing royalties for himself.
The statement reveals that a contract signed in 2017 was allegedly replaced with a different, more onerous contract in 2019, with changes made to the original document to make it appear as if the newer contract was the original.
Investigations confirmed this change, with the law firm that originally draughted the 2019 contract claiming that it was never signed in their presence, despite EezeeTee’s assertions. Chinwo’s lawyers claim that the 2019 contract granted EezeeTee lifetime ownership of her music catalogue.
Chinwo also claims that EezeeTee withheld a large portion of her earnings from digital streams and publishing revenues.
While a reconciliation effort resulted in the recovery of some funds via EFCC intervention, the statement emphasises the ongoing legal battle sparked by EezeeTee’s subsequent lawsuit against Chinwo and fellow gospel artist Judikay. EezeeTee also brought a separate lawsuit against the EFCC.
Despite the legal challenges, Chinwo expresses a desire for a peaceful resolution and urges EezeeTee to publicly address the differences between the two contracts.
The statement concludes with a request for continued prayers and support for the artist.
The case demonstrates the complexities of artist-manager relationships, particularly in Nigeria’s gospel music industry, and raises concerns about contract transparency and financial accountability.
