Nigeria Welcomes Gaza Ceasefire, Commends Egypt, Qatar, US
Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian government has expressed strong support for the recently announced ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. According to Kimiebi Ebienfa,
Acting Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Federal Government welcomed the agreement as a critical step towards ending the devastating loss of civilian lives and the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the region.
The statement emphasised that the agreement has the potential to provide relief to families of Israeli hostages held in Gaza and Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons, as well as facilitate the much-needed delivery of aid and relief materials.
Nigeria praised Egypt, Qatar, and the United States for their efforts to broker the ceasefire, recognising their role as international guarantors of the agreement.
The government emphasised the ceasefire’s ability to provide hope and compassion to the people of the region. Nigeria urged all stakeholders to collaborate in the successful implementation of the agreement’s subsequent phases, and it reiterated its unwavering support for a two-state solution as the foundation for long-term peace between Palestine and Israel.
