Children’s Day: Obi Urges Investment In The Area Of Need For Young People

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate in the 2023 general election, has urged Nigerians and governments at all levels to direct their investments towards development for the sake of our children.

Obi said in a message to Nigerians on Children’s Day that as our society’s future, they should be given every opportunity to develop properly.

The LP standards bearer stated that it is unacceptable that four out of every ten Nigerian children are involved in child labour.

On Monday, the former Anambra State Governor wrote on his X handle, “On this day, we celebrate Children’s Day, and I rejoice with all Nigerian children, for whose sake we remain steadfast in our struggle for a New Nigeria.

“This day, which is set aside to celebrate the Nigerian child, allows us to focus on our children, the future leaders of our society, while also reminding us of the importance of investing in their development and supporting and nurturing their dreams.”

“Every Nigerian child deserves access to quality education, healthcare, and a safe and secure environment in which to grow and thrive. As a result, we must invest in these critical areas of development for their own sake as well as for society’s future.

“Unfortunately, the issues of child labour persist in our Nigerian society today. According to a National Bureau of Statistics report, 39.2 percent of our children work as children, with 22.9 percent working in hazardous conditions.

“According to the reports, four out of every ten children in Nigeria are trapped in child labour, endangering both the children and society’s future. To address the challenges of child labour, we must prioritise lifting more people out of poverty and ensuring the rights of all Nigerian children.

“While encouraging the parents, guardians, teachers, and benefactors who oversee our children’s education, I urge them to continue to do their best to raise responsible citizens in our nation.

“I encourage the children to prioritise their moral and educational development. We reiterate our commitment to creating a safe, secure, and productive nation for our children to live in and fully realise their potential – the New Nigeria we are working for. It is POssible.
