Julius Berger Bags Construction Company Of The Year Award
Julius Berger Nigeria PLC, a leading engineering and construction company, won the prestigious Construction Company of the Year Award over the weekend, as journalists celebrated 2025 World Press Freedom Day in Abuja.
According to Comrade Alhassan Yahya, National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, who presented the Award plaque to Julius Berger at the well-attended event, Julius Berger Nigeria PLC deserves the Award because it has been at the forefront of several landmark projects across the country.
Throughout the year under review, we have observed that the company has consistently performed well in all construction projects, including those that are currently in progress. Julius Berger excels at everything from the Eko Bridge in Lagos, built in 1965, to the Second Niger Bridge and the ongoing Bodo-Bonny Road. We must state unequivocally that you deserve this award and more, the NUJ President declared amid applause.
Speaking after receiving the Award on behalf of Julius Berger, the Director of Administration, Alh. Dr. Abdulaziz Kaita, thanked the NUJ for the Award, stating that it is a most unique gesture that coincides with the commemoration of World Press Freedom Day.
This honour, particularly in light of World Press Freedom Day, has a profound and symbolic meaning for us, according to the Director.
The United Nations recognises the significance of a free press on this day, which celebrates fundamental principles of press freedom, assesses the state of press freedom globally, defends media independence, and honours journalists who have died in the line of duty.
Thus, as a company, we are overjoyed to be honoured with this Award on this Day when the world recognises the contributions of members of the fourth estate to global development,” he continued, adding that this recognition is not only a testament to the innovative impact we have made in the construction industry, but also a validation of our unwavering commitment to excellence, safety, and sustainable development in Nigeria. At Julius Berger, we believe that innovation is more than a choice; it is a responsibility we have to the future of infrastructure and the communities we serve.
He stated that at Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, innovation is at the core of everything. Kaita stated that the company has consistently raised the bar in Nigeria’s construction landscape by pioneering cold recycling technology for more sustainable road construction, deploying advanced digital tools in project management and engineering design, and setting benchmarks with ISO 9001 quality assurance standards and ISO 45001 occupational safety practices.
He concluded that by implementing these innovations, Julius Berger is not only building infrastructure, but also trust, empowering local talent, and propelling Nigeria’s industrial and economic development.
Other winners of the NUJ’s Press Freedom and Good Governance Awards 2025 included the governors of Kaduna and Kebbi states, as well as the Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFUND, Nigeria National Petroleuim Company Ltd, Director General of the National Senior Citizens Centre, and the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS.
