Abia State Revamps Enyimba Hotel With Radisson Blu Partnership
Abia State is set for a significant tourism and hospitality boost following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the state government and Radisson Blu.
The agreement allows for the complete reconstruction and expansion of the long-abandoned Enyimba Hotel in Aba, as well as the construction of a cutting-edge International Conference and Exhibition Centre.
The MoU, signed today at Radisson Blu’s Lagos headquarters, is a significant step towards Governor Alex Otti’s ambitious goal of transforming Abia State into a model for hospitality investment.
The state government was represented by the Honourable Attorney General, Mr. Ikechukwu Uwanna, and the Director General of the Greater Aba Development Authority (GADA), Architect Uche Ukeje.
The revitalised Enyimba Hotel will be a five-star establishment with world-class amenities and event spaces. The complex will feature a 2,500-seat main hall, several smaller halls, and a large exhibition area.
This ambitious project seeks to not only revive a landmark project started by the late Chief Sam Mbakwe, but also to significantly increase Aba’s appeal as a business and tourism destination.
The project’s launch marks the culmination of Governor Otti’s efforts to overcome various legal and contractual roadblocks that had stymied the Enyimba Hotel’s development for nearly four decades.
The Governor’s decision to select a reputable international brand such as Radisson Blu demonstrates his commitment to building a truly world-class facility.
This initiative is consistent with Governor Otti’s administration’s overall goal of revitalising dormant industries and institutions throughout the state.
Recent achievements in road infrastructure, security, and waste management have already attracted significant positive attention to Abia, resulting in increased population growth in Aba and Umuahia.
The investment in hospitality is viewed as a critical step towards accommodating this growth and further stimulating the state’s economy.
The Enyimba Hotel project, once completed, is expected to generate numerous jobs and significantly contribute to the state’s economic development, cementing Abia State’s position as a thriving and appealing destination for both business and leisure travellers.
The Governor’s commitment to transforming Abia State from a near-slum to a model state gains traction with this historic agreement.
