Police Command Queries Suspected Cattle Rustler For Murder
- Recovers 20 Cows, 14 Cattle
Muhammadu Bello, 25, a suspected cattle rustler, has been detained for allegedly masterminding an attack that resulted in the death of his employer, Yay Mohammed, a cattle dealer in Soku Village near Iseyin Town, Oyo State.
The suspected killer was paraded alongside 32 other suspects on Friday at the Oyo State Police Command Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, Oyo State’s capital city, for their alleged involvement in different offenses ranging from cultism to armed robbery and impersonation, among others.
During a press conference, the state police public relations officer, SP. Adewale Osifeso confirmed that on September 17th, 2023 at around 0630hrs, actionable information was received at the Command Monitoring Unit from a credible source in Iseyin town that a nomadic cattle herder was sighted at KARA Market, ISEYIN looking for a cattle dealer who will buy a large herd of cattle.
“Sequel to this credible information, a team of operatives attached to the unit to ISEYIN town was deployed for swift intervention, and in the process, the suspect who later identified himself as MOHAMMAD BELLO was arrested and upon interrogation, he confessed that he was a cattle rustler and subsequently led the operatives to a thicket,” Osifeso said in his address.
“However, further investigation into SOKU Forest, where he claimed to have committed the heinous act, revealed that the suspect had killed the owner of the cows and sheep, identified by him as YAU MOHAMMED (his employer), and buried him in a shallow grave.” The Club, which he admitted to using to attack and kill his employer, was also discovered at the crime scene.
“Investigation is ongoing, with assurances that further developments will be communicated,” Osifeso added.
Twenty live cows, fourteen live animals, and a club were among the exhibits confiscated from the suspected murderer.
