IPOB Lawyer Praises Human Rights Report Detailing Atrocities In Eastern Nigeria
Abuja, Nigeria – Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, lead counsel for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has lauded the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety) for its comprehensive report documenting widespread human rights abuses in Eastern Nigeria.
The report, which includes a detailed account of the violent attack on Ejiofor’s ancestral home in Anambra State, has been praised as a crucial resource for human rights advocacy.
In a statement released today, Ejiofor expressed his gratitude for Intersociety’s “painstaking effort” in compiling the reports, titled “Ocean of Innocent Blood Flowing in Eastern Nigeria” and “Human Rights Made in Nigeria.”
He highlighted the reports’ in-depth analysis of extrajudicial killings, torture, enforced disappearances, and property destruction, calling them “meticulously compiled findings” that shine a light on the ongoing crisis.
Ejiofor emphasized the significance of the reports’ call for action from international organizations, including the United Nations and the International Criminal Court (ICC), to hold perpetrators accountable.
He stated that the reports serve as “essential resources for the human rights community,” providing a roadmap for investigations and advocacy efforts.
The lawyer, personally affected by the violence detailed in the report, commended Intersociety’s courage and commitment. He concluded by expressing his hope that the report will inspire collective action to restore justice, peace, and human dignity to Eastern Nigeria.
The reports’ detailed account of the systematic nature of the alleged abuses and their call for international intervention are likely to fuel further debate and calls for action regarding the human rights situation in the region.
