Nnamdi Kanu: We’ll Explore Other Legal Options, Says AGF Malami
- I’ll Address Him On Friday—IPOB Lawyer
Nigeria’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami SAN, has disclosed that the Federal Government will explore other legal options in pursuit of its case against the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Malami spoke against the backdrop of Thursday’s judgment of the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, which quashed the 15-count charges leveled against Nnamdi Kanu by the Federal Government.
“The Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice
has received the news of the decision of the Court of Appeal concerning the trial of Nnamdi Kanu. For the avoidance of doubt and by the verdict of the Court, Kanu was only discharged and not acquitted.
“Consequently, the appropriate legal options before the authorities will be exploited and communicated accordingly to the public.
“The decision handed down by the court of appeal was on single issues that borders on rendition.
“Let it be made clear to the general public that other issues that predates rendition on the basis of which Kanu jumped bail remain valid issues for judicial determination.
“The Federal Government will consider all available options open to us on the judgment on rendition while pursuing determination of pre-rendition issues” the AGF said.
A source who preferred anonymity told Daily Independent that the AGF’s reaction “leaves much to be desired as the three Honourable Justices of the Court of Appeal exhibited great industry in their decision.
“Are the 5-count charge which predates the infamous rendition not the same counts, which the FG had jettisoned to file an amended 15-counts charge, the source queried.
Meanwhile, Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor Esq., said he would address Malami on Friday.
