Abuja, Nigeria – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has delivered a scathing critique of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2025 New Year Day address, characterising it as self-congratulatory and detached from the harsh realities facing Nigerians.

In a statement released by its spokesperson, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the PDP asserted that the speech offered no solutions to the nation’s mounting problems and further confirmed its belief that the Tinubu administration is failing the people.

The party accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) government of gross mismanagement and the implementation of ill-conceived policies, leading to widespread hardship.

Ologunagba highlighted the speech’s lack of concrete plans to address critical issues such as soaring fuel prices, widespread hunger, and the ailing productive sector.

He pointedly criticized the absence of a roadmap for improving electricity, oil and gas infrastructure, road networks, and food production.

The PDP also lamented the lack of a comprehensive strategy to tackle unemployment through investment in Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs).

“If the APC truly cared about Nigerians,” Ologunagba stated, “the New Year address would have included definite pronouncements on fuel prices.

With effective resource management, Nigeria should not be paying more than N350 per litre for petrol.”

The PDP argued that the current price reflects a lack of transparency and innovative governance.

The party further dismissed President Tinubu’s claim of having the public’s confidence, calling it “ludicrous” and indicative of a disconnect from reality.

The PDP declared that Nigerians have lost faith in the administration and are looking forward to the next election to end what it termed the “APC nightmare.”

The PDP concluded by urging President Tinubu to demonstrate a greater commitment to the welfare of the people, listen to their concerns, and adopt policies aimed at addressing the widespread suffering across the nation.

The party’s statement emphasizes a growing sense of disillusionment among its members and, it claims, a significant portion of the Nigerian populace with the current administration’s performance.
