Izon Ladies Boy Child Sensitisation Campaign Motivates Students in Bayelsa
By Eunice Nnachi in Yenagoa*
The air crackled with excitement as students from Bishop Diemeri Grammar School in Obim, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, gathered for a one-of-a-kind sensitisation campaign organised by the Izon Ladies Association (ILA).
This was not just another school assembly; it was a call to action, a strong message about the importance of raising ideal boys for a better future.
Lady Meg Agidee, President of ILA Bayelsa, opened the proceedings with a heartfelt speech emphasising the critical need to guide young boys away from negative influences and towards positive habits.
“We must resist peer pressure,” she said, urging the students to become role models in their communities and set an example for others to follow.
The campaign’s key message struck a deep chord: “The neglected boy child today will marry our daughters tomorrow.”
This moving statement emphasised the importance of investing in the well-being of young boys, not only for their futures but also for the future of our society as a whole.
A diverse panel of speakers discussed different aspects of youth development, providing insights and challenges. Dr. Mrs. Stella Ugolo’s presentation, “The Ideal Boy Child,” eloquently defined the characteristics of a well-nurtured boy, emphasising respect, integrity, and responsibility.
Hon. Patricia Isenah, with her keen understanding of contemporary issues, painted a picture of the challenges that boys face today, emphasising the importance of remaining true to themselves in the face of societal pressures.
Mrs. Christy Ebelli’s talk, titled “Devices Can Destroy the Ideal Boy Child,” sparked an important discussion about the potential dangers of technology.
She emphasised how excessive screen time and exposure to harmful content can harm a child’s development, urging students to be aware of their digital footprint.
Barrister Beatrice Koroye wrapped up the series of talks with a powerful message on “Legal Implications for Deviant Behaviour of the Ideal Boy Child,” emphasising the consequences of criminal activity. She emphasised the importance of understanding laws to guide behaviour and make informed decisions.
The event concluded with Dame Grace Fiepere’s closing remarks, which emphasised the importance of raising ideal children for a better future. A transformative day concluded with light refreshments and Chief Lilian Okus’ closing prayer, which was full of hope and unity.
The ILA’s sensitisation campaign was more than just a one-time event; it demonstrated their commitment to empowering youth in Bayelsa State.
The student’s active participation, engagement in discussions, and willingness to ask questions demonstrated the effectiveness of the initiative.
“It was a powerful reminder that raising a generation that understands its responsibilities and potential is critical for a brighter future.
