Obi, Datti, Usman Lead Labour Party Team To Maiduguri, Donate N50m To Flood Victims
Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate for the 2023 election, led the leadership of the party and the Obedient Movement to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Tuesday to express sympathies to the state over the recent flood disaster.
Senator Nenadi Usman, Obi’s running mate in the 2023 elections, Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmad, the National Coordinator of the Obedient Movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, and other party leaders accompanied him on the trip.
The team made an initial N50 million donation to the state government’s emergency relief fund.
They paid a visit to the state’s governor, Babagana Zulum, and His Highness the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Umar Garba Al Amin El-Kanemi.
In addition, the team went to the Bank of the North spare parts market, where traders had lost their goods, an IDP camp in Government College, where they met thousands of people, and a woman who tragically lost her newborn twins in the flood.
The LP team assured the people of Borno that the Labour Party is committed to assisting those affected by the devastating floods in Borno. To show solidarity, we donated ₦50 million to the state government. They promised to do more, saying, “We will continue to support the people of Borno by providing aid and resources to assist them in rebuilding and recovering from this tragedy.”
“As the people of Borno face this difficult period, we want them to know they are not alone. We are committed to reducing the suffering and hardship caused by the floods, which have submerged more than half of Maiduguri and displaced thousands of residents. Our thoughts and prayers are with the affected families, and we will do everything in our power to help them.
“I thank the various levels of government, particularly the Borno State government, for their interventions and assistance to the affected people.
“As we reflect on the enormous loss and the arduous journey of recovery, may God Almighty grant eternal rest to those who died, replenish the losses of those who lost their belongings, and grant quick healing to those still in the hospital. Above all, may God Almighty continue to bless Borno and Nigeria.
