Nigerian Red Cross Deploys Disaster Response Teams To Maiduguri, Needs $2.5mTo Build Shelters, Food
The Nigerian Red Cross Society has deployed Disaster Response Teams to Maiduguri, Nigeria as part of its #MaiduguriFloodResponse, in an effort to respond to the growing humanitarian needs in the aftermath of the Maiduguri floods.
While in Maiduguri, the teams will build temporary shelters, provide psycho-social support to flood victims in Damboa, Bayo, Jere, and Maiduguri, and assist in rebuilding livelihoods.
Also, the President of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Prince Oluyemisi Adeaga, has stated that the organisation will need at least $2.5 million to restore some semblance of stability to the lives of those affected by the flood. Prince Adeaga explained that the Red Cross was distributing food and non-food items to 4,500 households.
In this vein, the Nigerian Red Cross Society is urgently seeking donations to provide life-saving assistance to thousands of families affected by massive flooding in Maiduguri and surrounding areas. Floods have displaced communities, destroyed homes, and left many without access to clean water, food, and shelter.
“The situation on the ground is dire, with many families struggling to get by. In the aftermath of this disaster, the Nigerian Red Cross is on the front lines, providing emergency relief such as food, water, first aid, and temporary shelter to those who have lost their homes. However, the magnitude of the disaster far exceeds the resources currently available.”
“Our teams are working tirelessly to respond to this emergency, but we cannot do it alone,” stated Prince Oluyemisi Adeaga, President of the Nigerian Red Cross Society.
“We urgently require the assistance of individuals, organisations, and the international community to reach those in desperate need. Every donation counts and could save a life.
Why do we need your help?
Immediate Relief: The floods have left thousands of people without basic necessities. To prevent the spread of waterborne diseases, funds are urgently needed to provide food, clean water, hygiene kits, and medical assistance.
Shelter and Protection: Many families are currently living in makeshift shelters or outdoors, exposed to the elements. Donations will be used to provide temporary housing and essential items such as blankets and clothing.
Long-term Recovery: In addition to providing immediate relief, the Nigerian Red Cross is committed to assisting communities in rebuilding their lives. Donations will also go towards long-term recovery efforts, such as rebuilding homes and restoring livelihoods.
How Can You Help?
The Nigerian Red Cross encourages everyone to contribute to this critical cause. Donations can be made via the Nigerian Red Cross Society’s official website, https://www.redcrossnigeria.org/maiduguri-flood-response, or by contacting our fundraising team directly at info@redcrossnigeria.org.
“In this moment of crisis, every naira counts. By working together, we can provide the relief and hope that these communities desperately need.
