Tinubu, Heed The Masses, Release Nnamdi Kanu: FCT Igbo Community Pleads
The Igbo Community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to heed the voices of the people and release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In a letter on Tuesday, Engr. Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, President General of the Igbo Community Association, FCT, stated: “Mr. President, the time has come for you to reflect and reconsider the persistent pleas of the Nigerian populace, not only those of Igbo descent.
“The calls for the release of the freedom fighter, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, are reaching a fever pitch and may become a distraction to your administration if you do not act promptly.
“The ‘Free Nnamdi Kanu’ protests could become your Achilles heel if this issue is not addressed properly and in a democratic manner.
“The Nigerian people increasingly recognise the injustice of holding Nnamdi Kanu for over four years without a conviction. They also remember his abduction from Kenya and his subsequent rendition to Nigeria by agents of the Federal Government.
“We urge you to use your executive powers and influence to resolve this escalating problem before it spirals out of control.
“You are undoubtedly a clever and wise politician. However, you must also be a wise President. The continued detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is neither wise nor prudent.
“A true democratic leader listens to the people. The people want Nnamdi Kanu freed. He deserves justice.
“We believe it is not illegal for people to advocate for their rights. Nigeria belongs to us all.”
