Abia Police Kill Six Suspected Kidnappers, Rescue Four Victims In Dramatic Raid
In a dramatic weekend operation, the Abia State Police Command apprehended six suspected kidnappers and rescued four victims in Osokwa, Osisioma Local Government Area.
Governor Dr. Alex Otti praised the successful raid, which left no police officers injured, as an example of “remarkable gallantry.”
Mr. Danladi Isah, Abia State Commissioner of Police, stated that a tactical team equipped with modern technology was deployed in response to intelligence reports of a kidnapping incident.
The team stormed a three-bedroom bungalow where the victims were being held, engaging the kidnappers in an intense firefight.
Six suspects were killed, and several others escaped with gunshot wounds. Police recovered firearms and ammunition from the scene.
The four rescued victims spoke to journalists about their five-day ordeal, describing how they were kidnapped last Sunday and held without food or water.
They revealed that the kidnappers had begun contacting their families to demand a ransom before the police intervened.
The rescued victims were presented to Governor Otti at Government House in Umuahia on Saturday night.
The Governor praised the Commissioner of Police and his officers for their bravery and quick response.
He ordered the immediate demolition of the house where the kidnapping occurred, as well as the landlord’s arrest and prosecution.
Governor Otti emphasised his administration’s zero-tolerance for crime, stating that “no inch of Abia State will be handed over to criminals.”
He warned landlords and community leaders who harbour criminal elements that they would suffer the consequences.
He also expressed his sadness over the recent killing of two people in Ukwa LGA and the continued captivity of another kidnapped resident.
Commissioner Isah stated that efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
He thanked Governor Otti for his assistance and urged Abia residents to cooperate with the police by providing credible information to aid in crime prevention efforts. The police investigation is ongoing.
