Igwe Iweka Takes Helm Of Anambra Traditional Rulers Council, Pledges Unity, Security
Obosi, Anambra State – Igwe Chidubem Iweka (Ogalagidi, Eze Iweka III) has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council (TRC), succeeding Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe (Agbogidi), the Obi of Onitsha.
His appointment was announced by Governor Chukwuma Soludo after extensive consultations.
Igwe Iweka spoke to reporters at his palace in Obosi about his vision for the council, emphasising unity and collaboration among traditional rulers. “My goal is for the traditional rulers of Anambra State to speak with one voice,” he said.
He believes that this unified approach will benefit the state, villages, communities, the Southeast zone, and Nigeria as a whole.
Igwe Iweka used his four-year tenure as head of the state’s task force on anti-cult, anti-drug, and anti-fraud activities to demonstrate his ability to foster collaboration.
He expressed gratitude for the opportunity, praising his predecessor’s leadership and Governor Soludo’s confidence.
The new chairman will prioritise security. He welcomed Governor Soludo’s new security initiative, ‘Operation Udo Ga Achi,’ which aims to address security gaps along the state’s borders and riverine areas.
“This new security scheme will help reduce insecurity in Anambra State,” he stated.
Igwe Achebe, in a goodwill message delivered due to a prior commitment in Lagos, expressed his full support for his successor, emphasising the consultation process that led to Igwe Iweka’s selection.
The appointment has garnered widespread support. Obosi youths led by Nduka Chijindu and Tony Efobi, as well as Okpoko urban community youths and Obosi cabinet chiefs such as Chief Chibuzo Okeke, paid a visit to Igwe Iweka’s palace to express their support and confidence in his leadership.
They emphasised his transformative impact on Obosi and pledged their support for his new position. They are particularly optimistic about his ability to fight crime in the community.
The Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council is expected to be led by Igwe Iweka, and there is widespread enthusiasm for his leadership.
