Nigeria Pledges Support To Aviation Safety and Capacity Building At IFATCA Meeting
Cairo, Egypt – Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo SAN, has reiterated his country’s commitment to promoting aviation safety and building capacity within the African aviation sector during his address at the 35th Africa and Middle East Regional Meeting of the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Associations (IFATCA).
The event, held in Cairo, Egypt, saw the gathering of over 50,000 air traffic controllers from more than 130 countries under the umbrella of IFATCA, the global body representing the professionals responsible for the safe and efficient flow of air traffic.
Minister Keyamo, during his welcome address, highlighted the significance of the meeting, emphasising the role of air traffic controllers in ensuring safe and efficient air travel.
He acknowledged the critical role that IFATCA plays in fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing among air traffic controllers worldwide.
“Nigeria is committed to working with IFATCA and our regional partners to improve aviation safety and enhance capacity within the African aviation sector,” Minister Keyamo stated.
“We recognise the vital role of air traffic controllers in ensuring the safety and efficiency of air travel. We are committed to investing in training, technology, and infrastructure to strengthen our aviation sector and contribute to its growth across the continent.”
His sentiments were echoed by his counterpart from Egypt, Pilot Sameh El-Hefny, the Minister of Civil Aviation, who also attended the event.
Both ministers emphasised the need for continued collaboration and knowledge-sharing to address challenges and seize opportunities within the aviation industry.
The 35th Africa and Middle East Regional Meeting of IFATCA is expected to focus on key themes such as safety, security, capacity building, and technological advancements in the field of air traffic control.
The event will provide a platform for discussions, knowledge sharing, and the exchange of best practices among participating professionals.
Nigeria’s commitment to supporting aviation safety and capacity building aligns with its ongoing efforts to modernize and expand its own aviation infrastructure.
The country is investing heavily in airport upgrades, air traffic control systems, and training programs to meet the growing demand for air travel within the continent.
The IFATCA meeting is anticipated to play a crucial role in fostering collaboration and promoting innovation in the field of air traffic control, ultimately contributing to a safer and more efficient air travel experience for passengers across the globe.
