Mrs. Stella Orogbemi, wife of the arrested New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) chieftain, has warned some politicians against slandering her husband as a woman-beater, claiming that he has never physically abused her.

She frowned at the alleged attempt by Hon. Olawunmi Fayemi, who represents Ilaje Constituency II in the State House of Assembly, and Ms. Toyin Ogungbure, Chairman of Ilaje Local Government, to defame her husband as a woman-beater.

Mrs Orogbemi made this statement in response to a video clip posted on Fayemi’s Facebook page in which she accused the arrested NNPP chieftain of assaulting Council Chairman Ogungbure.

Mrs Orogbemi, in a statement, described the allegation as a fabrication intended to demonise her husband because he disagrees with the All Progressives Congress (APC) governance style.

Mrs Orogbemi stated: “I am Mrs Stella Orogbemi, the wife of Mr Banji Orogbemi, who is being intimidated, harassed, and oppressed by Ms. Toyin Ogungbure, the chairperson of Ilaje Local Government Area, and her cohorts in Akure, because of his political beliefs and membership of the NNPP.

“My attention has been drawn to a series of social media posts by various people, including people claiming to be chairpersons of various LCDAs in Ilaje, as well as a video clip produced by Hon. Wunmi Fayemi-Obayelu alleging that my loving, gentle, easy-going, and amiable husband beat up the Chairperson of Ilaje Local Government Area.

“They have all taken turns condemning my husband’s alleged act of brutality on Ms. Toyin Ogungbure on 02/09/2024, to demonise him by calling him a name he does not deserve.

“For those with objective, open, and unbiased minds, the true story is as follows: On September 2, 2024, my husband went to a buckataria beside the Chicken Republic eatery in Igbokoda to buy some food.

On September 3, 2024, he was summoned to the magistrate court and denied bail. He was remanded in the Okitipupa Correctional Centre for one month. Even if found guilty, he could only face one month in jail or a fine.

The arrest of the NNPP chieftain has been criticised as an attempt to intimidate other political parties in the state before the off-circle governorship election on November 16, 2024.
