Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar lamented that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has adopted propaganda, misinformation, and disinformation as state policy.

Atiku, who chastised President Tinubu’s media managers, stated that the President’s speech on Sunday will be remembered in ignominy.

According to a statement issued by Atiku’s Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, “In the afternoon of Wednesday, on Day 7 of the #EndBadGivernanceInNigeria protest, President Bola Tinubu’s official X handle (formerly known as Twitter) posted a video clip of the President pleading with Nigerians to relax the protest and give his administration more time.

“The video went viral on social media and was adjudged to have demonstrated more empathy for the concerns of protesting Nigerians, as opposed to the President’s shambolic speech on Sunday, which will be remembered in ignominy.

“Curiously, much later in the evening of the same day, presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga made a post on his X handle informing the country that the video clip posted on the President’s handle ‘is not a new video.’” It is a clip from a broadcast he did last year. What a wow!

“The scenario reveals a lot about Tinubu’s character, the proficiency of his media managers, and the presidency’s attitude towards the current #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest.

“For starters, the Tinubu presidency used the old video to deceive Nigerians and distract them. It is a behaviour that is characteristic of this presidency.

“This president and his media managers are masters of propaganda.”

Atiku went on to say, “It is indeed shameless that in a time when misinformation and disinformation are being blamed for public outrage in many parts of the world, the Nigerian government is caught red-handed in the act, adopting it as state policy.”

The former Vice President stated that the flip-flopping episode in the management of the President’s social media handle exemplifies the Tinubu administration’s policy flip-flops and trial-and-error policies, adding, “It is for this very reason that the country has been on a tight noose since the beginning of the administration.”

Atiku claimed that the president’s media team was aware of their poor performance in the president’s Sunday broadcast and, in an attempt to make amends, turned to what they know best: propaganda.

“This type of dysfunctional narrative is the reason Nigerians have lost faith in the Tinubu administration. “It is obvious to the blind and deaf that this government lacks credibility,” he stated.

Atiku warned that the Nigerian people deserve an unreserved apology from the Tinubu presidency for plunging them into a spiral of misinformation and disinformation, as well as the consequences of poor governance.
