Darwin Nunez Apologises For Training Video in New Message to Arne Slot, Liverpool
The Liverpool attacker struggled in front of goal towards the end of last season, but he hopes to improve his form with Uruguay this summer.
Darwin Nunez has six goals in his last five Uruguay appearances, and it is hoped that Marcelo Bielsa’s guidance with the national team will inspire him to improve his club form next season under Arne Slot.
The forward scored 18 times last season, but only one came after March and none after the first week of April. Nunez turns 25 on Monday, the same day his country kicks off its Copa America campaign against Panama.
Uruguay has not advanced past the quarter-finals of the tournament since winning it for the 15th time in 2011. However, there is hope that Nunez can be the guiding force this time. This will result in him missing some of Liverpool’s pre-season games.
This week, Slot acknowledged that his summer schedule will be disrupted by international players returning at different stages, as he tries to implement his new playing style for the upcoming season. He compared his methodology to that of Jurgen Klopp, but noted that it was not identical.
Darwin Nunez gives a five-word hint about Liverpool’s future after transfer admission.
Nunez, who underwhelmed during last season’s run-in and was benched for the final four Premier League matches, will be under the spotlight with the new head coach.
For the time being, he is focusing on international duty and posted a video on Friday of himself scoring a sumptuous long-range effort in Uruguay training, demonstrating that despite his recent club barren spell, he still has a keen eye for goal.
