Umeh, Mbachu, Others Celebrate Obi’s Political Icon Award
QSenator Victor Umeh, who represents Anambra Central Senatorial District, and Hon. Henry Nigeria Mbachu, who represents Awka South I State Constituency, have described the Labour Party Presidential Candidate Mr. Peter Obi, who received The Sun newspapers’ 2023 Political Icon Award, as revolutionary in Nigerian politics.
Senator Umeh expressed his congratulations on behalf of himself, his family, and the people of Anambra Central Senatorial District, saying that Obi deserved the award.
He praised Mr Obi’s political style, which focused on developmental issues as well as our country’s ethical and moral rebirth!
He stated, “His Revolutionary Political Strides during the Campaigns awoke Nigerians from their slumber and inspired in them the awareness that a New Nigeria is indeed possible!
“Despite the contentious outcome of the polls, Obi chose the path of due process and the rule of law in expressing his dissatisfaction with the process that produced the election result.
“With the conclusion of the election and the final judgement of the Supreme Court in the disputed polls, Obi has moved on with candour and has not withdrawn his efforts to seek a better Nigeria, as he has continued to move around Nigeria to lift the morale of the downtrodden masses and offer them succour!” Umeh wrote.
He thanked the Sun Newspaper’s management and publishers for bestowing this honour on the most deserving unusual politician in our country, and he prayed to God to keep Mr Obi in good health as he continues to contribute to the strengthening of democracy and good governance in Nigeria.
In his own congratulatory message, Hon. Mbachu described the award as meritorious and well-deserved, noting that Obi’s victory in the last general election altered Nigeria’s political trajectory since the return of democracy 25 years ago.
According to Mbachu, Obi visibly represents every Nigerian’s yearnings and aspirations and has the ability to lead the country from its current state to a prosperous future.
He also urged Obi to remain unwavering in his efforts to see Nigeria break free from bad governance and create the desired New Nigeria. He asked God for grace and unlimited strength.
