Oghenesivbe Says Tinubu’s New Year’s Message Does Not Provide Timeline For Economic Recovery
President Ahmed Tinubu’s message to Nigerians on the New Year was poor in terms of optimism, openness, and a timeline for economic recovery, according to Dr. Latimore Oghenesivbe, Executive Assistant on Orientation and Communication to Delta State Governor..
He said that the President intentionally caused the country’s hardship and high inflation rate by eliminating fuel subsidies and liberalising the foreign exchange market, and that his New Year’s speech should have concentrated on the measures his administration had taken to reduce inflation and the cost of petrol.
When Oghenesivbe reviewed President Tinubu’s speech with Elder Statesman Akin Fatunke on Tuesday’s MiTv live show via DSTV Channel 255, she further argued that the ambiguity of the President’s message to Nigerians had increased the level of hopelessness and overflowing tears for the common people, who bear the brunt of the nation’s economic woes caused by the unrealistic anti-people economic policies of the APC national government.
In his speech, he claimed that the N28.7 trillion budget that President Tinubu had signed into law should have been prioritised, with a focus on the following areas: national defence, internal security, job creation, macroeconomic stability, poverty reduction, investment environment stabilisation, human capital development, humanitarian services, agriculture, social welfare, and/or security.
In order for foreign investors to be inclined to make significant investments in Nigeria, Oghenesivbe—who is also the CEO of the Delta State Orientation Bureau (DSOB) and a full member of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA)—further stated that the Tinubu administration must act quickly to put an end to the country’s current wave of internal insecurity, stabilise the country’s power supply to support industry growth, and resolve the complex issues of widespread corruption in th
It was outdated for Mr. President to send his Vice on such a crucial mission that calls for his personal attention and solidarity, he said, criticising President Tinubu for failing to bring up the recent unlawful killings in Plateau State and for failing to pay the victims’ and their families’ bills in person.
Concerning the current political turmoil in River State, Oghenesivbe stated that former governor Nyesom Wike should be aware that Governor Similanayi Fubara, as the PDP’s leader and current governor, is in charge of the party’s structures. She clarified that previous governors have not traditionally claimed control of the party structure; rather, the current governor maintains control over the structure out of respect for the party, its leaders, and all of its members.
The individual expressed disbelief in Wike’s assertion that he needed to back President Tinubu in order to establish power in the South. They further stated that Wike plotted to unseat Atiku Abubakar as the PDP’s nominee for president, thus undermining Wike’s claim and stirring up opposition to a southern leader.
“The president’s speech to the country on New Year’s Day was merely an intellectual exercise and was ambiguous, dishonest, and forlorn.
“To enable Nigerians to better appreciate his efforts, if any, in that direction, he should briefly explain to them the strategies his administration had implemented to stop the Naira’s declining value and how the Port Harcourt and Dangote Refineries would drive down the price of fuel at the pump.”
“The way that President Tinubu succinctly outlined his macroeconomic reforms and how they will usher in a new era of prosperity for our country’s economy during his speech was commendable.
“He omitted to mention job creation tactics and the number of unemployed youth who would benefit from the N28.7 trillion budget. All in all, it was a vague speech.
“The President purposefully stayed away from the recent Plateau State serial killings. It is impossible to overstate the social compact Nigerians have with Mr. President. His failure to visit the plateau state to show compassion for the victims and bereaved families of the wrongful killings did not go down well.
“PDP has been defended since Tinubu, who previously claimed the Fuel Subsidy was a hoax, has since acknowledged he eliminated it. President Muhammadu Buhari actually paid the largest subsidy ever after protesting against what he claimed to be the nonexistence of the petrol subsidy.
It is now obvious who came to power through deception. Now, PDP is preferred by Nigerians. During the PDP government in the centre, life was more pleasurable and better. Nigerians are upset that the PDP lost out on the fantastic chance to win the country in 2023.
“The PDP will resurrect as a party in 2027. We will ensure that the errors of 2023 do not come back to haunt us as we prepare to unseat the APC in 2027.
“For Rivers State, former governor Weysom Wike ought to be aware that authority is bestowed by God. He wants to destroy the PDP in Rivers State entirely, but Governor Fubara is standing in his way.
