Borno Governor Seeks Expanded World Bank Partnership For Post-Conflict Recovery

Abuja, Nigeria – Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has called for increased collaboration with the World Bank to accelerate the state’s recovery from years of conflict.

During a meeting with the World Bank’s newly appointed Country Director, Dr. Ndiame Diop, in Abuja on Friday, Governor Zulum highlighted the crucial role of the World Bank’s ongoing support in key sectors like education, agriculture, health, and livestock development.

“Borno State has a strong collaborative relationship with the World Bank,” stated Governor Zulum, emphasizing the government’s significant investments in these sectors as part of its post-conflict recovery strategy.

Zulum specifically acknowledged the impact of the World Bank’s Multi-Sectoral Crisis Recovery Project (MCRP) in Borno, which has enabled the implementation of numerous life-saving and transformative initiatives across the state.

Dr. Diop, in response, reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to partnering with Borno in areas including education, healthcare, agriculture, and livestock.

He praised the state’s performance in implementing MCRP projects, noting that Borno leads the nation in project execution.

“Borno is leading in the implementation of MCRP projects across Nigeria,” Dr. Diop stated, adding that the World Bank will support efforts to reduce malaria and strengthen the livestock sector, which contributes significantly to the national economy.

Dr Diop expressed his intent to personally visit Borno, signifying his commitment to strengthening this partnership and exploring further avenues for support as peace returns to the region.

The World Bank aims to bolster Borno’s economy and improve the livelihoods of its citizens by supporting additional development initiatives.

Governor Zulum was accompanied by senior state officials, including the Commissioners of Health and Environment, the Chief Medical Director of the Hospitals Management Board, and the Executive Director of the Primary Healthcare Development Board.
