Nigeria @61: Why We Held Exhibition For Youths At Presidential Villa, Says Runsewe

The National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC) has explained why the council held a three-day exhibition involving youths and students to mark Nigeria’s 61st independence anniversary at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

A statement by Otunba Segun Runsewe, the Director-General, NCAC said that the council set up the exhibition at Presidential Villa as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said the essence was to catch the Nigerian school children young in nationalism, patriotism, and cultural orientation, adding that it also enabled the invited primary and secondary children to not only have a tour of the stand but to also have a feel of the seat of the Federal Government.

The exhibition was a follow-up to the cultural exhibition held NCAC on September 30, 2021, Runsewe said.

Runsewe said that the children from Tudun Wada Government Secondary School and Olumayu Secondary School were hosted to a tour of the exhibition stand on the first day, while the children from the Hilltop and Government Secondary School Gariki were hosted on the second day and the school children from Emma Tony International School Kurudu and Glisten International Academy Jahi, were hosted on the second and third day, respectively.

The NCAC helmsman who is also the President World Craft Council African Region, in his welcome address to the children, told them that they were the future leaders of tomorrow and urged them to start early in order to develop the right frame of mind, which would enable them to achieve great feats in life.

Runsewe emphasized to the children that among them were future leaders of tomorrow as Presidents, Vice Presidents, Governors, Deputy governors, Ministers, Senate Presidents, Judges, Senators, Speakers of the Federal and State assemblies, and Commissioners among others.

Runsewe added that in the Arts and Craft sector, nobody was a failure because there is room for everybody to excel in the creative world of arts and crafts since the sector offers great opportunities for everybody to showcase his or her God-given talents.

Runsewe while decorating the children as future ambassadors of the nation, charged them to start now to prepare their minds to take over the affairs of this country when the time was ripe.

He further admonished them to get to know each other, build bridges and relationships that would cut across zones, ethnic and religious boundaries, and above all put their country and nation-building first in all their endeavours.
