Malaria Consortium To Distribute 3.8 Million Mosquito Nets In Anambra
A Malaria Consortium, in collaboration with Anambra State Government in the fight to eliminate malaria is to begin mass distribution of a total of 3.8 million Insecticide Treated mosquito Nets (ITNs) from Sunday, August 7.
This was stated by a group of consultants to the Consortium lead by Demand Creation Consultant Farooq Mohammed Awwal during awareness creation workshop for Journalists in Awka on Friday.
The group said the exercise, apart from Malaria Consortium and Anambra State Government has the collaboration of National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP), with support from Give Well Open Philanthropic funding.
The objective, according to Awwal is to ensure that for every two persons in the state, there is one bed net to sleep inside, but a large family can get as much as four Nets.
This time he said, distribution will be done on door to door basis across all the 21 local government areas of the state.
Earlier the head of the department of Public Health and Disease Control in the Anambra Ministry of Health Dr Anaeme Afam Cyril said the distribution will be flagged off by Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo and that the distributors were well trained and picked from within the communities or surrounding community of the area.
Anime added that the distributors will do an on-the-spot education on how to use the Nets.
He urged families to admit the distributors despite the security situation in the country.
He said that because of the tense situation there was a need for sensitisation and education.
He also said that arrangement has been made for distribution in hard-to-reach areas of the state#
