WOMAN Empowers Over 70 Women In Yenagoa

In honour of International Women’s Day, the Women Organised for Mentorship and Advocacy Network (WOMAN) trained 70 women on liquid soap production and zobo drink over the weekend at Yenagoa Town Hall in Bayelsa.

The program, which teaches practical skills in liquid soap making and zobo drink production, was created to encourage women’s financial independence and entrepreneurship.

Speaking at the event, Executive Director WOMAN Lady Eunice Nnachi stated that providing women with the tools and knowledge they need to succeed can help them reach their full potential and contribute to the development of the community.

“These skills are more than just a means to achieve financial independence; they also contribute to confidence, self-reliance, and entrepreneurship.

“Today, however, is about action rather than reflection. It is about committing to building a world in which women and girls can thrive. A world where they can access education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.

She encouraged the women to use their acquired skills to become change agents, leaders, and innovators in their homes and communities.

Acting Paramount Ruler of Yenagoa Town, His Royal Highness, Chief Teddy Anyamalem, expressed gratitude to WOMAN for visiting the community to impart knowledge to the women.

“These days, not everyone will go to university; when there are skills like these, they can be used to care for some family needs.”

Chief Anyamalem prayed that God would continue to guide and strengthen the members of WOMAN in their efforts.

Mrs Fawei Young, Representative of the Primary Health Care Board, urged the women to get regular health checkups and ensure that their children were vaccinated.

Also speaking, Mr Wariebi Sambo, Representative of the State Commander of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), urged women to be wary of human traffickers and to report any suspected cases.

Mrs Bodisere Udisi Avulo of the National Orientation Agency, NOA, advised the women to apply their newly acquired knowledge and skills to increase their income.

Lady Chinwe Ubani, a representative of the National Human Rights Commission, stated that the commission promotes fundamental human rights, so all cases of child abandonment and human rights violations should be reported.

Over 70 women from various clans, including Ereigbe, Peletie, Finkumo, Pilifa, Fankile, Fankpulo, and Fankpo, attended the Empowerment Program in Yenagoa Town, Yenagoa Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.
