Minister Investigates Allegations Of Criminal Activity At Warri Correctional Centre
Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, has ordered a full investigation into allegations of criminal activity at the Okere Correctional Centre in Warri, Delta State.
The directive comes in response to recent media reports alleging serious misconduct at the facility.
In a statement issued Tuesday by his spokesman, Babatunde Alao, the Minister strongly condemned the alleged reprehensible behaviour and promised to hold those responsible accountable.
“I will not allow indiscipline to fester under my nose,” the Minister declared. “Any officer found wanting will face the full weight of the law.
The leadership of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) must provide explanations.”
The statement emphasized the Minister’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability within the correctional service system.
“We take these allegations seriously and will not tolerate any form of misconduct within our correctional facilities,” the Minister added.
The nature of the alleged criminal activities remains unspecified, but the Minister’s strong response indicates the gravity of the situation.
The investigation is expected to be comprehensive and swift, with the NCoS leadership tasked with providing a full account of the events.
The Minister appealed to the public to cooperate with the investigation by providing any relevant information that could assist in uncovering the truth.
The investigation’s findings and any subsequent actions will be keenly awaited by the public and stakeholders alike.
