Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has renewed his appeal for the release of Archbishop Emeritus Godwin Okpala, who was abducted ten days ago.

Obi, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), expressed deep concern over the continued captivity of the 75-year-old religious leader.

Obi’s initial appeal, made shortly after the abduction, urged the kidnappers to release the Archbishop.

In his latest statement, he emphasised the Archbishop’s advanced age and pleaded with the abductors to release him on compassionate grounds.

“It is deeply troubling and unfortunate that, after 10 days, the 75-year-old revered prelate – old enough to be a father or grandfather to the abductors – remains in captivity,” Obi wrote.

He concluded by reiterating his call for an end to all violence and actions that threaten human life.
