Sheriff Oborevwori, announced Tuesday that his administration has released more than N1 billion to the contractor in charge of the College of Health Sciences project at Delta State University of Science and Technology, DSUST, Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area of the State.
Governor Oborevwori announced the inauguration of the 4.04km Emevor-Orogun Phase 1 project, which includes 5.555km of side drains, at Emevor Community in the Local Government Area.
The Governor, who paid tribute to his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, whose administration awarded the contract for the first phase of the project, thanked the people of Emevor and the Isoko nation for their support and assured them that they would not be disappointed.
Governor Oborevwori, who announced approval for the second phase of the project to the crowd’s delight, also praised the contractor, Emorock Construction Concepts, for a job well done.
Oborevwori stated, “We have released over N1 billion to the contractor overseeing the College of Health Sciences project at Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro. It is a large project, and I can assure you that it will be completed by October of this year.
“I must acknowledge and thank my predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, for awarding the contract for the first phase of this road and initiating construction. I am proud to say that this road was built by a capable indigenous contractor.
“By my promise not to abandon ongoing projects inherited from the previous administration, I came to inspect this project on March 8th and April 8th to ensure that this phase of the road is ready for use before the rains.
“It gives me great pleasure to have completed this road because I know how strategic and important it is to the people of Emevor and the surrounding communities. This confirms that our MORE Agenda is on track. This is another promise made and kept.
“With the first phase completed at 4.04 kilometres, access to our farms, markets, and neighbouring villages will no longer be a nightmare. I believe that the local economy and living standards of our people along this axis will improve.
“I have received your request for the construction of the second phase. Be assured that, with God’s help, we will complete the entire length of the road, which will end at Orogun.”
He stated that when the entire length of the road is completed, it will significantly reduce travel time along the corridor.
Hon. Jonathan Ukodhiko, a member of the House of Representatives representing the Isoko Federal Constituency, and Hon. Bernard Odior, a member of the State House of Assembly representing the Isoko North Constituency, praised the Governor for his efforts in the Isoko nation, particularly the establishment of the College of Health Technology in Ovrode.
The lawmakers stated that the Emevor-Orogun road had presented a significant challenge to all Isoko people, but that the Isoko Nation would remain loyal and committed to his administration.
Mr Charles Aniagwu, Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads), commended the contractor for completing the project on time and with high quality.
He stated that completing the entire stretch of road to Orogun would bring the people full joy.
Earlier, the President-General of Emevor Progress Union, Comrade Teddy Edoso, and Chairman of the Delta State Hospitals Management Board, Dr Paul Oweh, thanked Governor Oborevwori for completing the first phase of the road and called for the award of a contract for Phase 2, which would connect the villages of Emevor and Orogun Town in Ughelli North Local Government Area.
They praised Governor Oborevwori for appointing community indigenes as well as prioritising and expediting road action, and they pledged the Emevor people’s complete commitment to the Governor’s political goals.
