Insecurity: Proper Monitoring Of Children Will Reduce Crimes, Says Army Chief
Parents have been urged to always monitor the activities of their children to avoid peer influence which may lead to engaging in social vices.
Speaking as the Guest of Honour at the Valedictory and Prize Giving Ceremony of the Command Day Secondary School located inside Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Odogbo Ibadan, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 2 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Gold Chubuisi advised parents and guidance to always monitor the activities of their children and wards in order not to give them room for negative social vices.
General Chubuisi who was ably represented at the event by the Divisional Training Officer of the Cantonment, Brigadier General Umar Abdukadir Muazu, said parents and guidance should not rest in their oars in continuing to educate and support their children, because the best gift they can give their children is quality education.
“They should monitor whatever their children are doing, the kind of friends they move out with, and where they go to so that we will not be having criminals and criminalities in our society,” Gen. Chubuisi said.
He also advised the graduands, to see their successful graduation from the school as the beginning of their journey in life, adding that, “what was given to you here is the foundation level of your lives.
“The graduands are going to the external world and they need to be very prepared because here they are been taught, but in tertiary institutions, they are going to be receiving lectures, so it is a different ball game. Only determination and their hard work will see them through.
“In the Army, we have core dedication to education and wellbeing of our officers, we have a lot of institutions of learning starting from command primary school to Army Children School to Command Secondary School both boarding and Day, and we also have other institutions of higher learning,” Chubuisi emphasised.
The Acting Commandant of the school, Major Adedeji Olusegun urged the graduands to go out and conquer the world, stressing that though there are always challenges but noted that they can be surmounted.
Representing the State Government at the event, the Senior Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Hon. Kunle Yusuf MON, said, “I’m here on double capacity. I was invited here as a book launcher and representative of the state government, and like I have said from the government perspective the only thing we can do is to partner with the school because it’s all about the goal of the SGDs, is about giving education to all.
