Elumelu Tasks FG On Operationalising FMC Asaba Annex
Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu has called on the federal government to act fast in deploying personnel to the federal medical center Asaba annex.
Recall that the Minority leader personally executed the task of renovating and expanding the annex, which now has staff quarters for medical personnel.
The facility also currently boasts of state of the art medical equipment but lacks the personnel to become medically useful to the community where it is sited.
The lawmaker is therefore worried that after investing millions of naira in building the center in 2014, the center was never put to use hence non-functional leading to wastage of resources which has defeated the purpose for starting the project in the first place.
Hon. Elumelu said sitting the project in the locality was received with joy and eagerness by indigenes living around the environment with the belief that the medical center will ameliorate the medical challenges of the people due to its proximity.
Elumelu further urged the committees on, Appropriation, finance and health to try to ensure that funds are provided for these purposes as well as other critical infrastructural resolutions of the house in the 2022 proposed appropriation Act.
He stated these at the commencement of debate on the general principles of the 2022 appropriation bill on Tuesday in Abuja.
Recall that journalists took a tour of the facility as well as other constituency projects executed by the lawmaker in his Aniocha North and Oshimili Federal Constituency of Delta State, in May this year.
According to his Senior Legislative Aide, Mr. Tony Ayaegbunam, who guided journalists on the tour to the facility, the FMC Asaba whose management superintends over the annex said it was waiting for approval from the
Federal Ministry of Health to equip the staff quarters before deploying personnel to the annex.
