Preparation On For A Successful Ngwa Day 2025 Celebration
By Uzoma Isiakpu
With barely two months remaining, the second edition of Ngwa Day, now an annual event, is fast approaching. On Sunday, December 28, 2025, Abia State will come alive as the people of Ngwa land, representing seven of the state’s 17 local government areas, gather at Ngwa High School, Aba, to celebrate Ngwa Day 2025 in grand style.
This inclusive celebration will showcase a rich tapestry of Ngwa culture, including Ekpe/Ekpo/Ikoro/Ozo title performances, the Iri Ji Ndi Ngwa (New Yam Festival), Offor Odi na Ala (traditional leadership symbols), Mgbede (traditional fattening room ceremony), Ngba Umunwoke (traditional wrestling), masquerade displays, musical concerts, and exhibitions. Attendees will also enjoy the preparation and tasting of special Ngwa delicacies. A well-researched lecture, delivered during the Symposium on December 27th, will add an intellectual dimension to the festivities. The guest lecturer, Professor Sam Erubo, a distinguished academic, law teacher, and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), will speak on “Ngwaness: Umunna Ehila,” which translates to “Kinsmen Are Great.” The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, is expected to be the Chief Guest of Honour.
As the countdown to Ngwa Day 2025 continues, what progress has been made to ensure a successful event? Checks reveal that preparations are indeed on track. Dr. Chukwuma Offor, the 1st Vice President of the Ngwa Social Club and Chairman of the Ngwa Day 2025 Planning Committee, is working diligently to ensure that all aspects are properly managed. An astute administrator with a passion for excellence, Dr. Offor is actively overseeing the sub-committees, fostering harmonious collaboration for a seamless and memorable outcome.
The various sub-committees are operating at full capacity to achieve the desired results. For example, the Contact and Reach/Mobilisation Committee, chaired by Lady Vivian Irondi, a Legal Analyst with the World Bank Group, has been effectively sensitising individuals and groups to participate in the program.
A pragmatic and highly motivated international event management expert, motivational speaker, and trust fund administrator, Lady Vivian Irondi is leveraging her extensive experience to drive her committee’s efforts. Lady Irondi and her team have traversed Ngwa land, mobilising citizens, groups, institutions, and communities to attend and participate in Ngwa Day 2025.
According to Lady Irondi, a renowned mobilizer, humanist, and philanthropist, the Contact and Reach/Mobilisation Committee is selflessly working to attract a large crowd to the event. She expressed satisfaction with the enthusiasm and positive reception from Ndi Ngwa, noting that her committee has already surpassed its mobilisation goals. Lady Irondi, a goal-oriented and accomplished woman, revealed that Ngwa monarchs, the Mayors of the seven LGAs of Ngwa land, Catholic and Anglican Bishops of Ngwa origin, industry leaders, prominent politicians, women’s organisations, and youth groups have all embraced the program.
Lady Vivian Irondi, a team player who also provides advisory support to other committees, emphasised that no segment of Ngwa society has been excluded from the mobilisation efforts. She stated that Keke (tricycle) operators, Okada (motorcycle) riders, Oha Ngwa hunters, palm wine tappers, palm tree cutters associations, Oha Ngwa market women, Oha Ngwa Dibia (traditional healers), Ikoro groups, as well as friends and well-wishers of Ndi Ngwa, have all been contacted and invited.
A strong believer in the Ngwa cause, Lady Vivian Irondi enthusiastically stated, “The affirmation is huge and encouraging from every person and group the Committee visited.”
Similarly, the Media/Publicity Committee, chaired by Chief Ukaobisike Uzoije, is actively executing its responsibilities, working diligently to raise awareness and generate publicity for the Ngwa Day 2025 celebration.
Comprising seasoned media, information management, and social media professionals, including De Sustainer, Baba Chumzy, Uzoma Isiakpu, Oluchukwu Precious, George Goodwill, Anuibe Ananaba, Vivian Irondi, Prince Clinton Uba, GOC Nnaji, Uba Alilionwu, Ikeddy Isiguzo, Ngozi Uloma Ufomba, and Precious Akachukwu, the Media/Publicity Committee has already designed eye-catching billboards to be displayed in strategic locations within the event’s catchment area.
The Committee has also finalised plans for the articulate Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Dr Chukwuma Offor, and select members of other Committees to promote Ngwa Day 2025 from various perspectives on radio stations across the state. Websites and social media pages have been created, jingles are being produced for airplay, and aggressive advertising is already yielding results. Plans are also underway to secure corporate sponsorship for the event.
Like the Contact, Reach/Mobilisation, and Media/Publicity Committees, the other committees, such as Culture and Antiquity, Protocol, Symposium, Security and Logistics, and Entertainment, are all perfecting their strategies to ensure a successful affair.
Internal information gathered from the activities of the various committees suggests that Ngwa Day 2025 promises to be a celebration of excellence.
However, beyond the fanfare and the revitalisation of Ngwa culture, tradition, customs, antiquity, and values, the time has come for the organisers of Ngwa Day to restore the dignity and respect of the Ngwa people in managing the affairs of their homeland. The “Ngwaness” being promoted should solidify our place in history and ensure that Ngwa sons and daughters take pride in their identity. Failure to realise this noble goal would render the entire concept of the Ngwa Day celebration meaningless.
