JAMB Disburses N397m In Transport Allowances For Mock UTME Officials
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disbursed a total of N397,030,900 in transport allowances to 1,909 officials taking part in the upcoming 2025 Mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), which is scheduled for April 10, 2025.
The announcement was made by JAMB’s Director of Finance, Mr. Mufutau Bello, during a critical meeting in Abuja to assess the board’s overall readiness for both the mock examination and the subsequent main UTME.
Mr. Bello emphasised the critical importance of both examinations to the nation, as well as the responsibility that JAMB officials bear.
He clarified that the released sum is only for the first tranche of payments, which covers one-third of the total number of officials involved in facilitating the nationwide mock exercise.
“The Mock exercise is the first phase of our core mandate, and we must, as always, set ourselves apart,” said Mr. Bello.
“The nation depends on the success of this exercise; any flaws could jeopardise the integrity of our educational system.”
He emphasised the high stakes involved, such as JAMB’s reputation, the tertiary education system, and the significant financial resources allotted to the process.
He reiterated that the N397,030,900 disbursed represents transportation allowances for 1,909 officials who will travel in support of the April 10th mock examination, and that it is the first phase of payments for one-third of the total number of officials deployed.
In response, JAMB officials reiterated their unwavering commitment to ensuring the success and smooth operation of both the mock exam and the main UTME throughout the country.
They also addressed public concerns about local travel allowances, stating that such discussions are frequently the result of a lack of understanding of the logistical complexities involved in organising and carrying out such a large-scale examination.
The mock UTME is designed to provide prospective candidates with a valuable opportunity to become acquainted with the examination environment and procedures, thereby reducing anxiety and improving performance in the main exam.
JAMB is confident that, with the dedication of its staff and the resources available, both the mock and main UTME will be conducted with the utmost integrity and efficiency.
