Hensard University Unveils ‘Industry Meets Academia’ Series, Features Economic Society President
Hensard University is set to launch a groundbreaking initiative, “Industry Meets Academia: The Dialogue Series,” a monthly webinar designed to connect students and staff with leading professionals across diverse sectors.
The series, spearheaded by the Department of Economics and coordinated by Dr. Adeyemo Oyindamola, aims to bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world application, fostering a dynamic exchange of ideas and experiences.
The inaugural edition of the series with the theme: “The Economic Impact of Subsidy Removal In Nigeria,” will kick off on Monday, July 28th, 2025, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am via Google Meet.
The esteemed guest expert for this first session will be Professor Adeola Adenikinju, President of the Nigerian Economic Society and Director of the Centre for Petroleum and Energy Economics at the University of Ibadan.
According to Hensard University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Dileep Kumar M., the “Industry Meets Academia” series represents a significant step forward in providing students with a well-rounded education.
He emphasised the importance of learning beyond the classroom, stating that the series will “go beyond other disciplines in the university, an opportunity to broaden our horizons and spark curiosity in our students and ourselves.”
Dr. Oyindamola described Professor Adenikinju as “an academic and policy leader whose work continues to shape national conversations,” highlighting the value his presence brings to the inaugural session.
“It’s our way of making economics come alive for students,” the university stated in a briefing outlining the series’ mission. “Each month, we’ll invite a guest expert—an economist, policymaker, analyst, or business leader—to speak to our students about a topical issue in Nigeria’s, nay Africa’s, economy.”
This initiative will provide students with firsthand insights into policy, practice, and innovation from professionals actively shaping Nigeria and the African continent.
Prof. Kumar has urged all university staff, both academic and non-academic, to attend the sessions and encourage active student participation.
He viewed the series as “a new chapter in our shared journey at Hensard University” and believes it will significantly contribute to the institution’s future.
The “Industry Meets Academia” series promises to be more than just a webinar; it is envisioned as a platform to connect students with the practical realities of their chosen fields.
Hensard University anticipates a strong turnout and a vibrant discussion, marking the beginning of a valuable academic-industry partnership.
Interested students and staff are encouraged to contact the Department of Economics for further details and registration information.
