Obi Donates N20 Million To Imo, Anambra Nursing Colleges

On Friday, Peter Obi (4th) presented a ₦10 million cheque each to the Colleges of Nursing Sciences at Ahiara, Mbaise in Imo State and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Ihiala. Miss Anigbo Chisom Mary (3rd) is the President of Students' Union Government.

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections, has donated N20 million to two colleges of nursing sciences in Imo and Anambra states.

During visits on Friday, the former Anambra State governor presented N10 million cheques to Holy Rosary College of Nursing in Ogbe, Ahiara Catholic Diocese, Mbaise, and the College of Nursing Sciences at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Ihiala.

Obi handed over the cheque to the Bishop of Ahiara Diocese, Most Rev Simeon Nwobi, at Holy Rosary College’s construction site.

The donation was received in Ihiala by Miss Anigbo Chisom Mary, President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG), in front of a crowd of enthusiastic students.

Obi highlighted the importance of healthcare and education in national development. He praised the Catholic Diocese of Ahiara for its initiative, calling it a significant contribution to Nigeria’s future.

“My Lords, what you are doing is a tremendous service to our country,” Obi said. “This donation is not a favour, but a recognition of your contributions to nation-building.”

He reiterated his support for the project, emphasising its importance in securing Nigeria’s future.

He also advocated for a focus on quality education, such as timely teacher salary payments and free and accessible primary and secondary education in both public and private schools.

Obi pledged his continued support to help nursing colleges become centres of excellence.

Bishop Nwobi expressed profound gratitude for the donation and praised Obi’s dedication to nation-building.

He announced that Holy Rosary College would begin operations next year and invited Obi to the opening ceremony.

Very Rev. Fr Okoro also stated that the college, which will begin construction in late 2021, will provide nursing, midwifery, pharmacy, cardiology, and laboratory sciences courses.

At Our Lady of Lourdes, SUG President Miss Anigbo Chisom Mary expressed the students’ gratitude for Obi’s support, describing him as a role model.
