Prof. Babagana Zulum, the Governor of Borno State, has begun construction on 100 houses in Azare, the state’s Hawul local government area headquarters.

The project, which is part of a 600-unit housing scheme for teachers in five local government areas that began on Tuesday, aims to reduce the state’s teacher housing deficit.

During his visit to Hawul, Governor Zulum also inspected two other ongoing projects: the permanent site of the newly established National Orthopaedic Hospital, Azare, which was donated to the federal government by the Borno State government, and the construction site for the new General Hospital in Shafa.

Zulum expressed satisfaction with the Azare community’s support for the project, stating that it demonstrates that sustainability will be ensured.

He said, “We received a very good brief from the engineer. He summarises everything. The most important takeaway from him is that the community is behind the project. With this commitment and support, I am confident that the hospital’s management will be well-maintained.”

The governor promised that the reconstruction work would be completed soon and that the hospital would be officially handed over to the federal government for takeoff.

He stated, “On my part as Governor of Borno State, I will continue to do my best to ensure that this project is completed. Now that the CMD has been appointed, I will meet with him tomorrow to discuss the next steps, most importantly.

“I will meet with the minister of health and then discuss their budgets. Insha Allah, we will do everything possible to have this hospital operational within the next two or three months.”
