Jare Ajayi, Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary, confirmed Adebanjo’s death and expressed the organization’s deep loss.

The Lagos House of Assembly also issued a statement mourning Adebanjo, describing him as a “thoroughbred Awoist” and a progressive politician who dedicated his life to the Yoruba people and humanity.

The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has joined the national mourning, expressing deep sadness over the death of a legendary icon and elder statesman who dedicated his life to promoting justice and freedom.

Adebanjo was born in 1928, and his life mirrored Nigeria’s. He was an active member of the pre-independence nationalist movement, a key figure in the Action Group (AG), and an ardent supporter of Afenifere, consistently advocating for true federalism and Yoruba rights.
