Labour Party Condemns APC Spokesperson’s ‘Incendiary Remarks’ Against Peter Obi
Abuja, January 9, 2025 – The Labour Party (LP) has strongly condemned the recent statements made by the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Felix Morka, accusing him of issuing threats against the party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.
In a press release issued today by Senator Nenadi Usman, PhD, Chairman of the LP Caretaker Committee, the party described Morka’s comments, made during a national television appearance on January 5th, as “incendiary” and a direct threat to Obi’s life, reputation, and business interests.
Senator Usman characterised Morka’s remarks as an affront to democratic principles and responsible political engagement.
She lauded Mr. Obi as a man of “impeccable character” dedicated to serving Nigeria and pursuing good governance, and argued that the APC’s attack constitutes an inability to engage in constructive political discourse.
The LP press release highlighted the dangers of inflammatory rhetoric, emphasizing its potential to undermine national unity and endanger lives.
The party called on security agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter and hold accountable anyone using public platforms to incite violence or issue veiled threats.
The statement urged political leaders to prioritise addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges, including insecurity, unemployment, and economic instability, instead of resorting to petty attacks.
The LP affirmed its commitment to transparency, justice, and inclusion, vowing not to be intimidated by threats.
The party demanded a public apology from the APC to Mr. Obi and a retraction of Morka’s statements, stating that failure to do so would constitute a tacit endorsement of his actions.
Senator Usman concluded by calling for responsible political dialogue and a focus on promoting peace and unity amongst Nigerians.
The Labour Party reiterated its unwavering support for Mr. Obi and his vision for a better Nigeria.
