Six Arrested For Vandalism In Abuja During Yuletide

Abuja, Nigeria – Six suspected vandals have been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for damaging public infrastructure during the recent Yuletide holidays.

The arrests were made during routine patrols aimed at securing lives and protecting critical national assets.

Commandant of the NSCDC FCT Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, paraded the suspects on Tuesday at the command headquarters.

He praised his officers for their dedication and commitment, highlighting their success in apprehending the vandals despite the festive period.

“My officers and men have displayed gallantry and commitment to the enforcement of law and order,” Odumosu stated.

He expressed outrage at the suspects’ actions, calling their sabotage of public amenities “unfortunate” and vowing to continue the fight against vandalism.

Among those arrested are Salihu Mohammed (27), apprehended at Life Camp, Kado, for vandalizing armoured cables; Mohammed Gadahfi (28), caught vandalizing solar panel poles and FCMB billboard poles on Yar’Adua Expressway; and Musa Ibrahim (18), found with vandalised parts of an El Rufai bus, also on Yar’Adua Expressway.

Three other suspects, Suleiman Yusuf (21), Ibrahim Mudassir (27), and Kabiru Sani (22), were also apprehended with various pieces of vandalized infrastructure.

The exact nature of the items recovered from the latter three was not specified in the released statement.

Odumosu confirmed that all six suspects are currently under investigation and will be prosecuted according to the law.

He urged FCT residents to continue cooperating with the NSCDC by providing information to help combat vandalism and other crimes.

The Commandant reiterated the NSCDC’s unwavering commitment to protecting critical infrastructure and bringing vandals to justice.
