Over 600 widows, people with disabilities, and the elderly in Bayelsa State received Christmas gifts this weekend thanks to the combined efforts of the Ikiomoye Kaka Foundation and the Timi Ziriki Foundation.

The distribution, held at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall in Yenagoa, provided essential food items such as rice, cooking oil, Maggi cubes, and sardines to those in greatest need during the holiday season.

The initiative’s convener, Hon. Timi Ziriki, emphasised the foundations’ commitment to uplifting vulnerable community members.

“It is the holiday season, and we decided to give back to humanity and show love so that everyone has something to eat on Christmas Day,” Ziriki told reporters.

The distribution, he added, included 600 beneficiaries from various vulnerable groups.

This is the foundations’ first large-scale food distribution, though they have previously provided relief supplies such as wheelchairs and crutches.

Ziriki expressed hope that the initiative would continue and called for more collaborators, especially in light of Valentine’s Day, arguing that showing love is preferable to displaying “lost” (presumably meaning loss or lack).

Abareowei Caleb of the Ikiomoye Kaka Foundation echoed these sentiments, emphasising the importance of ensuring that everyone enjoys the holiday season.

“Bayelsa is our base in the South-South,” Caleb explained. “It would not be right for some people to go hungry while others are celebrating.”
