The demonstration, dubbed a “March of the Combatant People,” served as a powerful display of opposition to the long-standing US embargo and Cuba’s inclusion on the US State Department’s list of state sponsors of terrorism.

Led by President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, the march underscored the Cuban people’s unwavering resistance to what they perceive as unjust and crippling sanctions.

The Havana waterfront, a historical site of Cuban protests, provided the backdrop for this latest demonstration of defiance.

The timing of the march is significant, coming shortly after the UN General Assembly’s overwhelming adoption (for the 32nd consecutive year) of a resolution condemning the US blockade.

The resolution, supported by 187 nations including Nigeria, highlights the widespread international condemnation of the embargo.

President Díaz-Canel addressed the crowd, emphasising the Cuban people’s lack of animosity towards the American people, stating, “We do not profess the slightest feeling of hatred against the American people. To the noble citizens of that country, we offer our full respect, and our hand is always extended to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood between the two peoples.”

He reiterated Cuba’s desire for a respectful and equal relationship with the US government but warned that any attempt to undermine Cuban sovereignty, independence, or socialism would be met with resolute resistance.

He declared the march “very anti-imperialist,” a direct response to what Cuba views as US attempts to impose its will through force or coercion.
