Biafran Agitators Acquitted In Abia State: A Victory For Justice, Says Lawyer Ejiofor
By Chuks Eke
An Abia State High Court in Umuahia acquitted five Biafran agitators who had been held since July 20, 2022 on charges of conspiracy, unlawful possession of firearms, and membership in an illegal society.
Sir Ifeanyi-Okite Ejiofor Esq., a human rights lawyer and counsel for the accused, described the ruling as a “tremendous victory” for justice and the rule of law.
Justice A.O. Chijioke delivered the decision, which discharged and acquitted the five men due to a lack of concrete evidence presented by the prosecution.
The prosecution’s case, which relied on three witnesses, was effectively demolished by the defense team’s legal approach.
Ejiofor praised his legal team’s “steadfast dedication, professionalism, and strength,” which included Dennison Agu, Esq., and Head of Chambers Chinwe Umeche, Esq., for their “unique precision and dedication to justice.”
He described the acquittal as a “colossal exemplification” of their abilities and a “heliograph of hope” for those who had been wrongfully accused.
The lawyer emphasized the universal principle that true freedom is contingent on the rule of law and a fair judicial system in which no one’s rights take precedence over those of others.
He highlighted the defence team’s success in not only protecting their clients’ rights but also upholding the core values of justice and human rights advocacy.
Ejiofor expressed his team’s continued commitment to securing the release of all innocent Biafran detainees across Nigeria, urging all Biafrans to remain peaceful and law-abiding while pursuing their quest for self-determination.
He concluded by stating that this victory serves as a “powerful signal of the importance of a fair judicial system rooted in the principles of truth and accountability,” and a beacon of hope for others fighting for justice.
The lawyer also extended the season’s greetings to his team, commending their “bouncebackability” and unwavering commitment to justice.
