Senate’s Halt On NWDC Board Appointments Praised By Christian Youth Group
Abuja, Nigeria – The Northern Christian Youth Professionals (NCYP) has lauded the Senate’s decision to halt the confirmation of the North West Development Commission (NWDC) board of directors.
The group, which had actively campaigned against the initial appointments citing a lack of Christian representation, hailed the Senate’s move as a commitment to fairness and equity in the region.
In a press statement released Sunday, NCYP Chairman Isaac Abrak commended Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Deputy President Barau Jibrin for the November 19th decision.
Abrak stated that the Senate’s action demonstrated “a commitment to fair representation and equity in the region.”
The NCYP had previously voiced concerns over the perceived imbalance in the board’s composition, arguing that the absence of Christian representation was unacceptable.
The group’s statement expressed confidence that the Senate’s decision was made “in good faith to enable President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to include Christians on the board, ensuring diverse representation.”
Abrak urged President Tinubu to engage in extensive consultations with Christian leaders and stakeholders in the North West region to identify suitable candidates for the board.
He emphasized that appointing qualified individuals is crucial “not only for Christians in the region but for the entire population.”
Expressing faith in President Tinubu’s leadership, Abrak noted the President’s reputation for consultation and selecting capable individuals.
He assured the President of the NCYP’s continued support and encouraged all Nigerians to work collaboratively with the administration to improve living conditions nationwide.
